In July 1999, while researching family history on the Internet, five cousins found each other and began researching together.
The one fact we all knew was that our Counts family had lived in Attala County, Mississippi. Some of us knew that we were related to the Downs family and some did not. Some of us only knew our great-grandfather's name. So, individually, we posted queries on the Attala County USGenweb site. Within a few days, we had made contact.
One cousin answered a query and introduced a new cousin. And then another and another. Before long there were five of us. Now there are about 10 cousins searching together. When we find a new cousin, we all email the new person, welcome them to the group and share information. Working together we have discovered many facts and made tremendous progress in researching the Counts family.
Since that day last summer, we have discovered the parents and grandparents of John and Andrew Counts and have traced their migration from South Carolina to Mississippi. We have found the family of our ggg-grandmother Susan Kirkley Counts. And, we are chipping away at the brick wall of the identity of Mr. Downs, and his wife Rachel. We also found the Counts families in Alabama who are descended from John Counts. Please visit our family history page for more information on this family.
While searching together and sharing information, we have become good friends. Our first Counts Family Reunion was in October of 2000. Those of us that were able to attended had a wonderful tme and are looking forward to the next one planned for October of 2002. Most importantly, we ar e finding our family. Although the family became scattered and lost touch; although we live all over the country, we are now "together again."
We hope you enjoy The Counts Connection. If you have information about the family, please contact us by signing the Guest Book.
